Boise police are continuing to investigate a reported sexual assault at Boise State University that was reported late Friday night.

A BroncoAlert from the university said the school's Department of Public Safety and the Boise Police Department responded to a report of an alleged rape at about 11:40 p.m. The victim first told officers the attack took place outdoors, roughly an hour earlier, on the Greenbelt side of Syringa Hall.

Police later told Idaho News 6 that the assault in fact happened inside a campus residence, correcting the location given in the initial report.

In the first account, the victim described the suspect as an unknown white man in his 30s with long blonde hair and tattoos on his arms. The BroncoAlert said the victim was forced to the ground and sexually assaulted before "fighting the suspect off."

Police issued an update on Monday, Oct. 12, saying they are no longer "seeking an unknown suspect." Although the investigation remains open, detectives believe there is "no outstanding threat to the public."

"The Boise Police Department takes reports of sexual violence very seriously and SVU detectives are continuing to review all available evidence," the update states. It adds that detectives and Victim Witness Coordinators have continued to provide resources and support to the victim, with help from the Ada County Victim Services Center and Boise State.

Boise State and local agencies have listed several options for people who want support or wish to report sexual misconduct. Students and employees can contact the university's Title IX Office, led by Coordinator Meagan Roumanis, at 208-426-1250 or tixie@boisestate.edu.

Reports can also be made to the Department of Public Safety in person at Capitol Village, 2245 University Drive, or by calling 208-426-6911. Online reporting is available through Boise State Public Safety. The Boise Police Department accepts anonymous reports at 208-343-COPS.

The Ada County Victim Services Center, at 417 S. Sixth St., can be reached at 208-577-4400. Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners are available there around the clock to perform specialized medical forensic examinations, which, according to the provided information, must be completed within 120 hours, or five days, of an assault.

For emergencies, people should call 911 or use a blue emergency phone on campus. Text-to-911 is also available in Ada County. For urgent security concerns that are not emergencies, Boise State's Department of Public Safety can be called at 208-426-6911, and the Rave Guardian app can serve as a mobile panic alarm.

Confidential support is available through University Counseling Services at 208-426-1459 (1529 Belmont St.), the Student Connections and Support Center at 208-426-4259 (1700 University Drive), and the Ada County Victim Services Center at 208-577-4400.
